Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Merzouga
Departing Marrakech in the morning, we climb the Tizi n'Tichka pass through the High Atlas before descending to Ait Benhaddou, where you'll walk through the fortified kasbah and hear about the Berber families who still live within its walls. Continuing through Ouarzazate, Morocco's film-industry hub and the traditional gateway to the desert, we pass the rosewater town of Kelaat M'Gouna and the rugged cliffs of the Dades Valley before reaching Erfoud and finally Merzouga in the late afternoon. As the light softens, you'll mount a camel for the trek into Erg Chebbi's dunes, arriving at camp in time to watch the sunset paint the sand gold, orange and red before dinner and drumming around the campfire.

Day 2: Sunrise in the dunes – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Rise early for sunrise over the dunes, one of the most photographed moments in Morocco, then ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. We drive north through Erfoud and Tinghir to Todra Gorge, where sheer 300-meter rock walls close in above a narrow river, and you can take a short walk into the canyon on foot. From there we continue into the Dades Valley, passing the so-called 'Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs' and the folded rock formations locals call the monkey fingers, before settling into your hotel for the night, with dinner and time to relax after two active days.

Day 3: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
After breakfast, we retrace the route through Ouarzazate, where there's time for a coffee stop and a look at the town's film-studio backdrop, before climbing back over the Tizi n'Tichka. Depending on timing and road conditions, we may stop again briefly near Ait Benhaddou for anyone who wants extra photos. The final descent brings you back into Marrakech by evening, where we drop you at your accommodation, three days after we picked you up and a very different traveler for it.

You get out and walk into the canyon on foot along the riverbed path beneath the towering rock walls — it's a highlight of day two and one of the most dramatic short walks in Morocco.
